It is important to understand the space you have available.
Use a graph and sketch the floor plan.
Don’t forget to mark where the windows and doors are; it will make it easier to plan where you want the biggest features to go. Create the best flow between your kitchen, outdoor space and other rooms of the house.
With the space you have left, make sure to plan to make the most of it. You will gain a clear idea of how much budget you would need.
If your plans don’t match how much you want to spend, then stop. There isn’t much point in choosing expensive items if there are other better, affordable options available.
The Triangle Design concept is the perfect way to help you choose the best layout for the kitchen. The three main features are the fridge, sink and hob which form the corners of the triangle.
It is important to maintain this shape for all objects to be close to each other but still allow space to move around.
The Galley kitchen consists of all units running along parallel to each other.
If you plan to create an open-plan kitchen, an island will separate the walls.
If you were to put the sink opposite the hob, it would make for a sensible arrangement.
Be cautious when deciding whether to have hanging wall units as they may make the space feel smaller. Choose open-shelves or glass-fronted units instead.
The U-shaped kitchen entails the units along three walls.
To work with the triangle, place the hob, sink, and fridge on each of the walls.
This type of kitchen creates plenty of room on the workspace to prepare and cook foods.
The L-shaped kitchen involves two of the walls holding the units. Two of the features can be placed on one wall, and the remaining feature can be placed by itself.
The key to this type of kitchen is to make sure to leave a gap for preparation space and don’t overload the walls with units.
Minimise them to the longest part of the L-shape.
Current Trends for the Modern Kitchen
The current trend for the living space is the ‘broken-plan.’
This consists of the space only slightly separated with a wall or sliding door.
It allows you to divide the kitchen and the dining room off for formal entertaining.
The most important features for a modern kitchen is the breakfast bar or an island.
Discuss with a designer whether that is an option for your kitchen space. A bar or an island can be a great way for the chef to interact with others and add space to other places.
Choosing the Right Pieces for the Kitchen
When you’ve worked out the right layout for the kitchen its time to start thinking about the theme and colours you would like to choose for the room.
The flooring is one of the most used features as it has to be hard-wearing but also stylish.
Choose either Tiles, Laminate or Sheet-like materials. They are easy to care for and are appropriate contemporary living space. Wood is possible, but we would not recommend as it can deteriorate at a much faster rate.
Don’t forget to add accessories. At Casanad, we have a selection of items available to personalise your kitchen.
